TWO people have been killed and up to 120 injured in a 150-vehicle pile up in Texas. The accident happened yesterday, on Thanksgiving morning, in dense fog on Interstate 10 near Beaumont.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Rod Carroll told Reuters: "We have 18-wheelers on top of cars, we have cars on top of cars. It's just catastrophic."
He said uninjured people involved in the collisions had come to the aid of overwhelmed rescue workers. "It's just people helping people," he said.
"The foremost thing in this holiday season is how other travellers were helping us when we were overwhelmed, sitting and holding, putting pressure on people that were injured."
The collision happened as people travelled to Thanksgiving Day celebrations, ITV News reports. The two dead were in an SUV that was crushed by a tractor trailer. Between 80 and 120 people were taken to hospital. Eight of those were seriously hurt.
